Ashley Hutchings - From Psychedelia to Sonnets

Event information

'The Guv'nor of British folk-rock' chronicles his extraordinary life and illustrious career through lyrics, poems, writings and song, supported by the superb violinist/singer Ruth Angell (Rainbow Chasers). ???? The Guardian 'An inspired work from start to finish, full of fascinating twists and turns. Very English, very essential.' BBC Music ______________________________________________________________________ As co-founder of Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span and the Albion Band, Ashley Hutchings MBE has long been called 'the Guv'nor' of British folk-rock. Equally, if less well know, Ashley is a talented and passionate wordsmith. His 2014 debut book 'Words Words Words' - a personal selection of song lyrics, poems, sonnets and other writings that spanned his entire career - was received as a 'genuinely imaginative and thoughtful collection' (Fatea Magazine). Here, Ashley celebrates his 72nd 'pioneering' year with a special 'spoken word and music' show, sharing the stories behind the writings, adding detail to the history of the bands he has created, and describing some of the many theatre projects he has brought to fruition. Special guest Ruth Angell (Rainbow Chasers) lends her pure vocal delivery and 'superb' (MOJO Magazine) fiddle to the event, creating atmospheric musical backgrounds to the stories and bringing to life varied songs and music from Ashley's illustrious career. ______________________________________________________________________ 'Ruth Angell is absolutely amazing on fiddle… scintillating.'
