A Brief History of Music

Event information

A glorious and evocative melting pot of 600 years of Western music from the Middle Ages to the 20th century: an evening of huge entertainment peppered with wit, period finery and earthy olde worlde instrumentation. ______________________________________________________________________ Two skilled historical music performers bring to life half a millennium of music with warmth and wit: 30 instruments, plentiful costume changes and 600 years of music in 90 minutes. Featuring long forgotten songs and tunes (not to mention jokes) GreenMatthews paint a vibrant and vivid picture of our musical DNA, mixing the familiar and the obscure, the raucous and the reflective and the courtly and the commonplace. Combining the vigour of the medieval period, the musical intricacy of the Renaissance, the grandeur of the Baroque, the pomp and bombast of Victoriana and the barbed wit of 'Blackadder' and '1066 And All That', the stage is set for a veritable musical feast. Founded in 2011 by Chris Green and Sophie Matthews, GreenMatthews have swiftly earned themselves an enviable reputation for presenting the sights and sounds of the past in a way that is witty, engaging and accessible. GreenMatthews formerly known as Blast From The Past.
