Ian McMillan & Ian Beesley Magic Lantern Tales

Event information

'The room will be dark but the pictures and the poems will light up the spirit!' Ian McMillan Two Ians for the price of one with a wonderful evening of storytelling, poetry and photography marking the centenary of the First World War. The pair Ian McMillan, much-loved BBC Radio 3 broadcaster and one of today's greatest poetry performers; Ian Beesley, acclaimed documentary photographer bring to life the first-hand stories and final reflections of men and women who lived through the war, with stunning, atmospheric accompanying images provided by a rare antique magic lantern projector. Magic lanterns were quite the phenomena during the war, something McMillan reflects upon with his trademark joviality and quick-witted verse. A nostalgic and not-to-be missed show celebrating the humanity rather than the brutality of war. Part of the First World War Centenary Programme (vibrant arts experiences connecting current and future generations with the lives, stories and impact of the First World War).
