Buxton’s biggest contemporary music choir perform our first Christmas Concert. After two sell-out Fringe Festival concerts our 60 singers are back. We will showcase a mix of songs including musical theatre; pop; feel-good songs and, of course, carols. A great way to feel Christmassy! Come along, enjoy listening and join in some of those carols if you wish.

CHOIR BACK STORY
Buxton Community Choir emerged after the locked-down time of covid 19. Singing together offered a way to put the dark days behind us and an idea was sewn.
Recruiting Chris Blackshaw as Musical Director was a good start. Chris came with experience from Peak Voices and Bakewell Youth Theatre plus contributing his tenor voice and impressive keyboard skills.
A ‘Taster Session’ in 4 October 2021 attracted an amazing 60 people. A week later Buxton Community Choir was established and we settled into our regular rehearsal venue, the meeting room at Buxton Methodist Church.
A springtime rehearsal was memorable. We were testing new light and sound equipment and, shrouded by Ukrainian colours, the choir sang ‘Hallelujah.’ On this occasion the rendition was particularly emotional and conveyed a sense shock at the horror of this war. A recording went on social media which has been viewed around the world and has also raised funds for Ukraine.
During the Fringe the choir performed ‘Life is a Cabaret, twice, to full houses. The concert offered our singers plus special guests performing a repertoire of songs including musical theatre, pop, opera and more.
As the festive season approaches we will sing on a variety of occasions leading up to our ‘Jingle Bell Time’ concert including a local care home, for the WI and at the Lake of Lights event.
The choir continues to hold rehearsals from 7pm til 9pm on Monday evenings and all are welcome. Contact us on buxtoncommunitychoir@ gmail.com
