Sunday 12th February 2:30pm Roth Guitar Duo – Afternoon Tea Concert The Roth Guitar Duo will perform an eclectic mix of music from around the world, composed and arranged for two guitars. The duo formed through a shared love of chamber music in 2014, whilst studying at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. The duo has played at venues and festivals throughout the UK and has been invited, on many occasions, to perform at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall for concert series such as A Little Bite Music, Dig the City Festival, Craig Ogden’s Big Guitar Weekend and Bridgewater Introducing, which gives up and coming artists the opportunity to perform at the prestigious venue. Sam and Emma always strive to create varied programmes of interest to any music lover, ranging from Renaissance to newly commissioned and unpublished works. The duo has recently released their first album “Canonica” which contains music from the event programme as well as other works from the duo’s repertoire. The concert will include compositions from Maximo Diego Pujol, Ferdinando Carulli, Yvonne Bloor and more. “a beautiful and diverse selection of repertoire, played by two of the UK’s brightest young stars of the guitar” Craig Ogden “the range of music Emma and Sam are able to draw on, and their choice of repertoire brilliantly displayed their tonal range, the dynamic interplay between them and their technical skills…this was a delightful concert, varied, stimulating and truly balm for the soul” Graham Jowett Doors open at 2pm |
Friday 24th February 7:30pm The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists In association with Live & Local, Actor Neil Gore brings this humorous and absorbing book to life in his one-man magic lantern show. Based on the 1914 novel by Robert Tressell, its story is set in the building trades of Edwardian England where painters and decorators struggle to maintain themselves and their families, poverty and the constant fear of unemployment notwithstanding, while renovating a large townhouse for the local mayor. With projected animation, conjuring tricks, live music and song, there’s something for all the family, not least the chance to become acquainted with this timeless story of socialism and political awakening. ‘A one-man, many-charactered tour de force’ Clare Brennan (Theatre Critic for The Observer) “A strong and robust show that brings the characters, humour and inspirational ideas of this great book to life. It is needed now more than ever. You’ll leave the theatre and join the struggle!” Ken Loach, Film Director Doors and Bar open 7pm |
