Arts Derbyshire is supported by a team of trustees. The Arts Derbyshire board of trustees’ work supports our goal of enriching people’s lives through the arts. As well as supporting Derbyshire’s art scene through Arts Derbyshire, our trustees also have personal links to the creative sector, with many of them being artists themselves. Although you may have read about our trustees already here, in this series we want to introduce you to each Arts Derbyshire Trustee and let them tell you about their story and relationship with the Derbyshire arts scene.
In this article, we would like to introduce you to our Trustee Sanjana Srinivasan.
Sanjana has always been drawn to development and problem-solving—figuring out how things work and how they can work better. Over the years, Sanjana has done everything from working in a café to programming for the public, curating exhibitions, writing wall texts, handling social media, planning events, researching and teaching. Through all of this, Sanjana has realised that she is a team player, happy to support wherever needed, and she finds every part of the process exciting.
I believe in the role Arts Derbyshire plays in the wider Derbyshire arts scene. At the moment, the arts here feels quite spread out—there is so much incredible work happening, but it’s not always connected (probably because of how expansive the county is). Having a shared space where artists, organisations, and venues can come together will only make the arts scene stronger. If we put up a united front, Derbyshire will get the recognition it deserves on a national level. Having that structure does not limit creativity—it actually gives us more space to experiment and grow.
That is why Arts Derbyshire, and what it does, is important to me. It is an organisation that is not just thinking about itself but about the bigger picture—about how to bring people together and make the arts more open and accessible, with an incredibly passionate team running it. It has also helped me put into words what I do and what I care about. Being a trustee is my way of contributing to this vision—supporting the team in whatever way I can and helping shape an arts landscape that feels connected, open, and full of possibilities.
