Derbyshire Breastfeeding Welcome Here Award – Calling all venues!

Businesses and community venues (such as cafés, libraries, GP surgeries and many more) who make their premises welcoming for breastfeeding families can positively impact on the health of families.

Sign your venue/organisation up to the Derbyshire Breastfeeding welcome here award – or share this opportunity with other venues/organisations.

This award aims to support and normalise breastfeeding in public places. It’s free to take part in and encourages organisations to actively welcome breastfeeding in their premises.

The Award Aims to:

  • help community venues show they actively welcome and support breastfeeding
  • support new families to feel confident breastfeeding when out and about
  • remove any barriers that may prevent people from breastfeeding in public
  • help to reduce stigma and discrimination that some women face and helps to make women feel more confident to get out and about with their infants and breastfeed toddlers and older children too
  • enable greater acceptance and promotion of breastfeeding in communities by promoting a breastfeeding friendly culture in commercial and community settings; with the overall aim of improving breastfeeding rates

Taking part also provides several benefits for organisations and businesses, including:

  • attracting families by making them feel welcome, they will, therefore, be likely to stay longer and spend more
  • breastfeeding families are also likely to return time after time to venues that they feel comfortable in
  • providing good publicity for your business or organisation
  • venues will be listed on DCHS website (promoted by Health Visitor’s and peer supporters)
  • Breastfeeding has lifelong health benefits for both infant and mother, those venues will be making a positive contribution to the health of Derbyshire.

The application process is quick and easy, and the scheme is free to join. This link takes you to the sign up page:  The Breastfeeding Welcome Here Award – Derbyshire County Council

Once an application is accepted, the venue will receive a certificate and a sticker to display in the window / door of their premises (more can be ordered if required)

Venues will be asked via email to renew their membership every 2 years

Please note, an account is not required.
