Introducing The Arts Derbyshire Trustees – Kalila Storey

Arts Derbyshire is supported by a team of trustees. The Arts Derbyshire board of trustees’ work supports our goal of enriching people’s lives through the arts. As well as supporting Derbyshire’s art scene through Arts Derbyshire, our trustees also have personal links to the creative sector, with many of them being artists themselves. Although you may have read about our trustees already here, in this series we want to introduce you to each Arts Derbyshire Trustee and let them tell you about their story and relationship with the Derbyshire arts scene.

In this article, we would like to introduce you to our Trustee Kalila Storey.

Kalila started her career in the arts as a Theatre maker. She studied a degree in Theatre and Textual Practices at Dartington College of Arts, and worked with a number of Devised Theatre companies, including Fold Out Theatre and Darting Past. Following graduation, she undertook a 12-month internship with People Express, an arts charity and Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation, based in South Derbyshire. Kalila worked with the organisation for 13 years, her final role in the organisation as Programmes Manager. During this time Kalila gained extensive experience in participatory engagement, arts programming and management.

Why are you a trustee with Arts Derbyshire?

I’m an active member of my local Labour Party and following involvement in the 2024 election campaign, I began a new role in politics, managing the constituency office of Samantha Niblett MP. As a lifelong lover of the arts, I joined Arts Derbyshire to support arts and creativity across my home county of Derbyshire.

Visit our Meet the Trustees page here for an overview of our board. Follow our Introducing Our Trustees series to find out more about each individual Trustee’s story and what Arts Derbyshire means to them.
