Arts Derbyshire is supported by a team of trustees. The Arts Derbyshire board of trustees’ work supports our goal of enriching people’s lives through the arts. As well as supporting Derbyshire’s art scene through Arts Derbyshire, our trustees also have personal links to the creative sector, with many of them being artists themselves. Although you may have read about our trustees already here, in this series we want to introduce you to each Arts Derbyshire Trustee and let them tell you about their story and relationship with the Derbyshire arts scene.
In this article, we would like to introduce you to our Trustee Anna Malik.
Anna is thrilled to be a trustee at Arts Derbyshire. She has trained at Birmingham School of Acting and Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts. With 20 years of experience working as a professional actress, director, producer and creative learning specialist.
She founded SiteLine Productions Ltd and S L Drama Academy and developed ‘Show Stoppers,’ an educational performing arts app that has helped transform 100s of children and young people struggling with low self-esteem and anxiety, and she now delivers the ‘Show Stoppers’ programmes to students across the UK and internationally.
Anna has also delivered creative performance workshops with Nottingham Playhouse, Shakespeare for Schools, Deda (amongst others). When she’s not delivering workshops Anna can be found working as the Head of Development for Freedom Foundation CIC – an organisation working to improve the mental wellbeing of children and young people through Hip Hop, Street dance and song wringing.
It will be great to apply all of this experience to Arts Derbyshire.
I’m passionate about using The Arts to include and empower young people from all socio-economic backgrounds and believe theatre is for everyone. My workshop delivery expertise lie in storytelling, choral movement, voice, script and physical theatre, and my workshops are delivered across Nottingham and Derby.
Now we’re in a position to signpost artists to fundraising opportunities, offer a platform to showcase creativity and help define the future of the arts in Derbyshire. Artists understand the collective value that connecting with other creatives can bring and our New Horizons meetings are going from strength to strength. We have so many exciting plans up our sleeves, watch this space!
