SINGER-SONGWRITER HANNAH BRINE WILL BE TOO BUSY TO CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL SONGWRITERS’ DAY THIS APRIL

Wednesday April 9th is International Songwriters’ Day, a day to celebrate the work of songwriters all around the world.

For singer-songwriter Hannah Brine, who lives in New Mills, Derbyshire, there’s barely any time to mark the day by stopping and reflecting on her songwriting achievements. 2025 looks packed full of “firsts” for Hannah, with the release of her first album on June 27th, two singles from the album being released in advance in April and May and her first national tour starting in April.

Hannah’s tour includes shows in Glossop on May 3rd, Matlock Bath on May 17th and two gigs later in July at the Buxton Fringe, where she won the prize for Best Solo Vocal in 2024, as well as performances at Bridgewater Hall and Manchester Central Library.

Hannah takes her songwriting inspiration from the Great American Songbook, and her voice & writing style has been likened to Carole King, Norah Jones and Rumer, among others. Hannah will be supporting Rumer in July, as part of the Buxton International Festival.

Hannah’s album, “Blue Sky Now”, features ten new songs, all written or co-written by Hannah, many in collaboration with renowned songwriter Michael Garvin.

Hannah said “Michael’s songwriting heritage is second to none, with twenty-three number 1 hits. We also share a love of jazz and classic songs. We met on a writing camp a few years ago when he was chosen to be my mentor. We’ve written lots of songs together since and it was a challenge to choose only the best ten for the album. The songs on “Blue Sky Now” are the ones that I feel most represent me and my life experiences””

“I think singer-songwriters have a duty to tell our own truth. For me that can be liberating and cathartic. I think the best songs come from digging deep into our human experience, creating a mood or a feeling the listener can relate to. It can be easy to sit down when we’re feeling blue or maudlin and write yet another sad song, but balancing that with something from those lighter and positive times can really be a great reminder of all the things we have to be grateful for.”

“I’m just delighted to finally be able to introduce a body of work which feels very much true to me and who I am. The album covers a whole range of topics – from loss & grief to finding love, from hoarding to relocation, from friendship to infertility – so it’s very broad and can be quite deep! The musical style varies too, from emotional ballads to the toe tapping samba ‘One Precious Life’, which will be released as the first single from the album.  I wrote the song as an homage to a friend who recently died, it’s a reminder to always enjoy and value the life we have, and to live every day.“

“I am a huge fan of artists such as Carole King and Burt Bacharach and I have tried hard to get a nod to that era of quality writing, to aim to carry on that tradition. This is not bubble-gum pop, it’s honest and deep. Modern songwriters I love include Benny Blanco & Lizzie McAlpine and I also adore Cleo Sol, especially her lyrics.”

“I am so looking forward to going out on tour – the band I’ve assembled are simply brilliant, the rehearsals are sounding amazing and it’s going to be an utter thrill to give these songs life in front of new audiences. I just can’t wait.”

Although “Blue Sky Now” is Hannah’s first album, she has been writing & releasing her songs successfully for a number of years across a range of genres. Hannah co-wrote and provided lead vocals on the 2022 single “You and I” with DJ Ciaran McAuley & Roger Shah, which topped the global trance charts, and has also written a number of pieces of choral music, including Winter Lark, a song for lockdown which was featured on Scala FM. She works as a session singer & singing teacher and is also an inspirational choir conductor with seven choirs in her choir family, including Bollington Singers, High Peak Singers and Didsbury Singers.
