Forthcoming Show & Gallery News At The Old Lock Up Gallery

'HOMAGE' - Stephen Snoddy and Sculptural Work - Richard Perry

Our forthcoming exhibition 'Homage' opens on 9th March at 6.30pm until 8.30pm - do feel free to join us for the opening of the show where both artists will be present at the gallery.

The exhibition includes new work by Stephen Snoddy & Richard Perry

Stephen Snoddy - This set of 12 new paintings is a response to Henri Matisse’s paintings of the period 1913 – 17 when he was at his most experimental. The paintings ‘Open Window’, ‘The Piano Lesson’, ‘Goldfish and Palette’ and ‘The Studio, Quai Saint Michel’ are all a source of inspiration.

In the artist’s own words:

‘The paintings often come in a small series and incorporate architectural and geometric structures with colour to get everything right – space, line, form. The final result is a balanced resolution made through corrections, revisions and re-workings that show a mixture of judgement through the intrinsic process of making. I both pay attention and call attention to the means and alertness of the language of painting and in particular in ‘Homage’ the paintings of Henri Matisse from 1913 -17.’

Richard Perry - My recent studio work uses a geometric language to play with concerns of weight and balance, the process, a conflicting one of intuitive adjustment and premeditated decision. I explore these ideas in painting, drawing, and sculpture. The show will continue until 21st April and the gallery is open Friday - Sunday.
