Winter at Haarlem Artspace

Winter is one of those seasons that one minute you are loving, with its colour spectrum of raging red berries and pale blue light in the sky, and the next you are cursing, as you long for warm summer breezes and for a day you don’t have to spend half an hour getting all your winter gear on just to go to the post office. So as the year comes to a close we hope to see you at some of our events, either bringing your winter joy to share or your winter blues to be soothed.

In October we proudly launched a brand new Supporter scheme

As a Supporter you receive a set of exclusive benefits, including:
- A designed quarterly letter with studio news and artist features
- Advance programme information and priority booking for our events
- Invitations to exclusive events
- Invitations to attend our annual art trips
- Exclusive guided studio tours
- Meet the artist opportunities
– An invitation to observe our monthly artist critiques
- Opportunities to get involved as a volunteer

Becoming a supporter costs £30 per year and your donation will enable us to continue to invest in the creative and artistic programme that Haarlem Artspace offers to its audiences, our artists and to the local community.

November has seen two new directors coming on board and one of them is me! I love the energy and the ethos of this special place and am hoping to help with advice on your business, or a grant application for a new project. At the moment I manage the Creative Leicestershire programme supporting artists and creative businesses over in Leicestershire and if you want to see the sorts of things we get up to, check out the site. Feel free to drop me a line and we can have a cup of tea in Haarlem (I’ve always wanted to be able to say that!).

Hannah and her partner Toby have a wedding photography business, Red on Blonde at Haarlem Artspace, and Hannah also joins the directors as our annual studio holder director.

With the Spring will come a brand new website and we are excited to be working with Dust, a multi-disciplinary design collective who have worked on inspirational sites such as Corridor8.

We will also be ready to rent our ground floor (See below) so if you know someone who has a creative business and they are looking for workspace, please share this information or get in touch.

Finally here are a few events for your diary in the New Year:

Jan 10th (opening) – Feb 9th we have Peter Mathews –Drawings and Films from the Ocean.

A Ticketed Music event with Drysalter + Livvy Punnett projections on Thursday the 24th of January & closing Talk Thursday 7th of February

Don’t forget to visit us on social media and share any posts with people you know will find them interesting. We’re on Instagram @haarlemartspace and Twitter @HaarlemArtspace

From all the Director’s at Haarlem we would like to extend Season’s Greetings and a huge thank you for your incredible support over the past year!

At Haarlem Artspace Community Interest Company we champion rural contemporary creativity, connecting and sustaining professional rural artists from our base in the inspiring and historic, grade II* listed Haarlem Mill. We run a series of stimulating exhibitions, artists and academic talks, artist’ s residencies, critiques and continuing professional development activities for artists, for visiting creatives and of interest for the general public. We don’t receive any regular funding for the work we do, so any help you can give is invaluable to us. Our curatorial position is to find art that showcases contemporary practices that challenge our unique location. We're interested in artists and writers that question the areas' role in global industrialisation, landscapes relationship with time and future models of ecological sustainability. Our space enables us to bring ambitious high-profile artists to rural audiences.

Please do get involved, we are here for the use of this community.

Best wishes
