Dracula Returns: A Conference and Celebration

Event details

This event brings together scholars, practitioners, and members of the public for four days of events and discussions about Dracula in its many forms including theatre, literature, cinema, television, photography, and digital and online media.

The multidisciplinary nature of the conference is aimed at a broad spectrum of scholars and speakers with a focus on relating the diverse aspects of Dracula to their own discipline or interests.

Full schedule available online here

The conference period includes celebratory cultural activities that we warmly encourage all delegates to attend:

  • Thursday 15th May – evening drinks reception at the House of Holes (the current incarnation of the Grand Theatre).
  • Friday 16th May – Poetry Doesn’t Suck! Vampire Performance Poetry Slam at the Museum of Making.
  • Saturday 17th May – the Derby Monster Mash – closing party with three live garage rock bands (The Razerbills, Snakerattlers and The Sleazoids), DJ Joe Atom and AFAB drag queen Boo as the evening’s compere!

Presented as part of Dracula returns to Derby, an AHRC-funded research project led by the University of Derby in partnership with Derby Museums, Derby Theatre, Bournemouth University and Sheffield Hallam University. A series of public workshops and events that connect the city with the world’s most famous vampire.
