Booking deadline is Friday 24 May. Rory Stewart OBE is a British politician, documentary-maker and writer. Since May 2010, he has been the Member of Parliament for Penrith and The Border – the largest geographical constituency in England. He is currently the Minister of State at the Ministry of Justice with responsibility for prisons, probation and sentencing. He will be joining us for a talk exploring his parliamentary and military career as well as his four books and documentary work.

    Sir Simon Jenkins is a British author, newspaper columnist and editor. Formerly the editor of the Times, Jenkins currently writes columns for The Guardian and the Evening Standard. Jenkins’ books are as rich and varied as his career with books exploring railways, history, churches, houses and politics… to name but a few! Join us for a event exploring Jenkins’ career, work and his most recent book, A Short History of Europe.

    Broadcaster, author and parliamentarian, Melvyn Bragg (Lord Bragg of Wigton) has been at the forefront of arts, culture and academic discussion for nearly 60 years. Starting his career as a BBC trainee, he has worked on many ground-breaking programmes, most prominently as editor and presenter of The South Bank Show and for BBC Radio 4’s In Our Time and Start the Week. His skills as a communicator have undoubtedly made the arts more accessible and less elitist.

    Book at QUAD Join us for a morning of mindfulness. The event starts with a one-hour mindfulness session where you will learn practices to help you relax, reduce stress and live your life in the present. There will then be refreshments, followed by a 60 minute author talk with Isabel Losada. Described by The Bookseller as “The UK’s Sassiest Spiritual Author” Isabel entertains by condensing everything she has learnt in twenty years of writing comedy into one event.

    The Book Fair returns in a new venue: The Museum at the Wardwick. Discover stories old and new, or take a chance with one of our mystery books! There will be a range of stalls including authors, publishers, charities and book-related gifts. You can also hear some of our local authors giving readings from their work.

    Faisal Shafi, the Managing Editor of DESIblitz, a multi-award winning British Asian web magazine, will lead this workshop helping you break down the barriers to journalism. Learn how to find a story, write a great article and pitch it the publications. Faisal started a career in public service broadcasting working for the BBC. After completing his MA in Media and Communication, he worked for Danish NGO Baltic Media Centre, where he successfully managed a successful TV project in Afghanistan. His focus is on work which increases awareness of global issues in post-conflict, emerging and democratic societies.
