Tell Tale Tusk Folk Ensemble Tour

Event information

This intriguing and distinctive all-female contemporary folk ensemble plays a spellbinding (and award-winning) set reimagining folktales old and giving light to folksong new, weaving immaculate and virtuosic harmony vocals with exquisite violin and cello work. A slick, cheerfully eclectic set of thrilling acoustic folk, from gently charming ballads to foot-stomping rockers. _________________________________________________________________ Fiona Fey: vocals, clarinet, guitar Laura Inskip: vocals, clarinet, guitar Rey Yusuf: vocals, percussion Anna Lowenstein: fiddle Maya McCourt: cello Comprising of five female musicians - three vocalists, two of whom play guitar and clarinet and the other, percussion, accompanied by a string section of violin and cello Tell Tale Tusk performs intricate, boundlessly creative arrangements of traditional folklore songs from the British Isles and North America as well as their own original compositions, taking audiences on a journey through wyrd worlds, macabre imaginings and fantastical tableaus. The quintet has grown and developed over the years, emerging first as an a capella trio, before adding a fiddle player and then cello player and setting hands upon new instruments to explore and expand their palette. Their highly collaborative process informs the diverse styles and varied sounds that can be heard within their music. Their traditional material is carefully chosen to portray and represent women in more assertive roles than are usually found in folk music. The singers of Tell Tale Tusk have captured the imagination of international audiences, and they were awarded the prize for 'Best Instrumentalist' at Haizetara Festival in Spain, with the panel of judges treating the three voices as one instrument based on their 'seamless vocal blending'. Following in the footsteps of The Moulettes, Mountain Man and The Unthanks, Tell Tale Tusk's take on folk is full of highly crafted harmonies and virtuosic voice blending.
